Here I am reviewing a report on a 22-year-old young lady who is depressed, suicidal, moody, irritable, restless, edgy, unable to sleep at night but sleepy in the daytime, increased appetite, and tried to commit suicide.
Do you think her doctor is going to sit down and go over the food she eats and the exercise she does not do?
What is easier, popping a pill or changing your life? Which one actually works?
All the above symptoms the young lady is experiencing can be related to candidiasis and also leaky-gut syndrome, both caused by food intake.

Symptoms of candidiasis
Anxiety and panic attacks. I definitely suffered from anxiety, to the point of being prescribed Xanax.
Craving sweets, breads, alcohol: I never craved alcohol, but sweets! Before going to my new holistic doctor, I went through a big bag of candy-coated almonds. I would totally crave sweets. I knew I was a sugar addict. I had been trying to kick the sugar habit and each time fell off the wagon. It would start with just a little bite, then more and more, until all I REALLY wanted to eat was cake! with frosting of course. Not that I did that. I mean, I would fight those urges. I tried to eat more fruit instead. So this transition to the anti-Candida diet has been a total 180 degree change for me and I realize just how much sweet stuff I had been eating. And it is really nice to know that there is hope for me after all, that these cravings were caused by a disease, not lack of willpower or whatever on my part.
Depression, irritability and mood swings: I had been depressed for most of my life. What finally drove me to a doctor for treatment was sitting and crying for no discernible reasons. And talk about irritable! Boy howdy. Raising 4 kids, working full time, doing everything, stressed out, I was irritable. Mood swings, that too. So what did my regular doctor do for me? Tell me I was bipolar and send me to a psychiatrist so I could take prescription drugs the rest of my life. And I had to see this shrink about 4 times a year just so he could ask me the same stupid questions (are you feeling suicidal? No.) I asked him, was there any chance of me ever coming off these drugs. Answer: No.
Digestive problems: Including diarrhea, constipation, mucus in stools, cramps, gas, bloating, rectal itching, thrush, coated tongue.
Dizziness, loss of balance, headache, numbness: Of these neurological symptoms, lately I had been feeling just a touch of dizziness, especially when exercising and standing up.
Fatigue and/or lethargy: I had been feeling fatigued and lethargic prior to getting treated for candidiasis. I recall spending the whole day on the couch just vegging out, watching mindless flicks on Netflix.
Foggy thinking or feeling spacy: I recall the day my ex-friend and I were going on a trip to the hot springs. Well that morning, I just could not get going. My brain felt so fogged up. Because of that, I was late meeting my ex-friend, who got horribly angry with me.
Frequent or chronic infections like sinusitis, respiratory problems and even prostatitis.
Genitourinary symptoms can include symptoms of a bladder infection even though there are no bacteria involved, and vaginal itching.
Joint pain or swelling: Can't say as I have any joint problems, except my sacroiliac joint. Not sure exactly what is wrong with it. All I know is I need to see my chiropractor about once a month to keep it in line.
Muscle aches: I am certainly looking forward to the day I have fewer or no muscle aches. Parts of my back are always hurting. Nothing acute, just low grade ache.
Palpitations, aka fast heart rate or skipped beats: I can recall times when I would feel my heart beating abnormally.
Ringing or buzzing sound in the ears: This is a tricky symptom to pick up on in our modern environment. We are constantly surrounded by things that hum: your computer, refrigerator, etc. And outside there is traffic noise. So to hear any ringing or buzzing sound, you really need to have a quiet environment. And yes, I have this symptom to. I had always wondered: am I going deaf or what? I am excited that perhaps once the Candida is eradicated from my system, this ringing sound will go away.
Skin problems like itchy rashes (athletes foot or jock itch).
Vision changes, spots before eyes: Cannot say that I had any vision changes per se. But it got me thinking, maybe it is why I need glasses?
That is not to say these symptoms cannot be caused by other things. However, if other things have been ruled out, what is left?

Who is KatzSaarloos? A 54-year-old white female of Ukrainian-German-Swiss descent, 100 pounds overweight. Okay that is me physically. Mentally - that's a can of worms! My main interests right now: God, PhotoShop, computer art, oil painting, Corel Painter 12, and getting healthy.
Monday, March 11, I was diagnosis as having candidiasis, which is "a fungal infection caused by yeasts that belong to the genus Candida. There are over 20 species of Candida yeasts that can cause infection in humans, the most common of which is Candida albicans. Candida yeasts normally live on the skin and mucous membranes without causing infection; however, overgrowth of these organisms can cause symptoms to develop. Symptoms of candidiasis vary depending on the area of the body that is infected." (http://www.cdc.gov/fungal/candidiasis/)
When I found this out, I wanted to dance for joy! Because you cannot fix something if you do not know what the problem is. The problems I was having were low energy, being diagnosed as bipolar and having to take crummy medications and seeing a shrink 4 times a year just so he could ask me the same stupid questions (are you suicidal? No.) That along with struggling with my weight for over 20 years. I have not been under 200 pounds since I cannot remember when. Hard to believe I was ever svelte! I have 4 children and each pregnancy I just got fatter and fatter. (On Feb 16, 2013, I recorded my weight at 265 pounds. As of today, I am writing 257 pounds. My scale is horribly inaccurate, but when you got a lot of weight to lose 5 pounds either way makes really no difference.)
Turns out I am not bipolar, thank God. I am not off my prescribed mood stabilizing drugs and feel wonderful. I am taking Nystatin to kill off the Candida and have changed my diet dramatically.
I have been tracking my food intake since February at SparkPeople.com. The first thing I discovered was I was not getting enough protein intake. As I read other peoples' posts, first I came to grips with the fact that soymilk is really not that good for me. So I stopped drinking soymilk. Then I kept running across the word "paleo." Looked into that and thought, hey that makes a lot of sense. So I started eating the paleo (paleolithic aka cave man) way, which means no grains or legumes. Immediately started feeling better. It was a week after that I saw my new doctor and got the above diagnosis. The anti-Candida diet takes the paleo diet one step further in that the first month no sweet food at all, even stuff like sweet potatoes. Half your plate is protein and the other half vegetables. Since eating this way, I came to the conclusion I was eating way too much sweet stuff (like sweetened creamer for my coffee, even too much fruit). It has been an interesting transition.
The best part about this is that now there is hope! If you have ever struggled with a chronic problem, you know what I mean. It turns out the reason I could not lose weight - even though I was eating what is considered to be a normal healthy diet - is I was not feeding my body what it needed, namely protein and fats because I had learned about 20 years ago is that fat makes you fat. LOL. So not true! Carbs make you fat, especially carbs in the form of flour (bread, cereal). Not only that, grains and legumes cause auto-immune problems. More on that later.
Blessings to all. Kat
